Gospel singer Timothy Wright, pastor of a popular New York City church, was critically injured in a crash in central
The singer’s wife, Betty Wright, 58, died in the three-vehicle crash on Interstate 80 in Greene Township, state police said. The Wrights lived in Roosevelt, N.Y. just outside New York City. The driver of the other car, John Pick, 44, of Lewisburg, Pa. was also killed in the horrific accident, police said.
According to police, the accident occurred around 10:35 p.m. Friday, when Pick was driving the wrong way on the Interstate. His car hit Wright’s car, and then a third car, driven by Kyle Creasap, 25, of Marion, Ohio, also hit the Wright car, police said. Creasap and a passenger in Creasap's car, Heather Berringer, 23, were injured, police said.
The Wrights were returning from a Church of God in Christ conference in Detroit, said Leroy Johnson, a trustee at Grace Tabernacle Christian Center, the New York church where Wright is pastor.
Wright has released more than a dozen gospel recordings, and his latest album, Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, came out last year. The couple has five sons. The family asked that no other information be released. Our prayers are with Rev. Wright and his family.
