Belizeans, friends of Belize and diaspora community leadersgathered at a reception and community forum with Belize's Foreign Minister, Lisa Shoman, the first female Foreign Minister of the country. Brooklyn's Borough President, Hon. Marty Markowitz presented a proclamation to the Belize Prime Minister, Rt. Hon. Said Musa, who was unable totravel to New York forhis annual "meet and greet" with fellow Belizeans following the annual address to the United Nation's General Assembly. The proclamation was presented by the BP's community relations executive, Ms. Ann Marie Adamson, tothe Foreign Minisister, H. E. Lisa Shoman who accepted on behalf of Prime Minister Musa. The Caribbean Documentary TV was on location to capture the moment as Belizeansproudly expressed their gratitude toBrooklyn's Borough President, Hon. Marty Markowitz', for his continuous kindness of expression and sensitivity towards the NY Belizean community, hiswarm welcome to the Belizean delegation and the Permanent Mission of Belize to the UN, andforthe pronouncementthat October 25th will be Belizean Day in the Borough of Brooklyn. " Brooklyn has had many wonderful Borough Presidents but Marty has made a difference to Belizeans. He has made it his business to ensure that Brooklyn's multicultural presence becomes more complete each year he reigned. He will not stop until either his term limithas expired or until he has reached-out to as many cultures andleaders. Ican attest to this factbecause he made a commitment to us, community organizers, ata specially formed planning committeefor the Second Annual June Is Caribbean Heritage Month. And with the help ofthe cooperation of the Belizean community,"Belize At Its Best"was showcased ranging from arts, literature, dance, drumming, artifacts, music tofood (creole, garifuna and spanish),all butthe exception of art exhibit gallery. This year, however, look forward to see Belize representation in all of the event's categories.
