This year’s program is dedicated to the 200th Anniversary of the Abolition of the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade. The abolition of the Trans-Atlantic slave trade two hundred years ago signaled the end of a most cruel and barbaric act against humanity. Millions perished as humans were used as cargo to enrich the economies of Europe, the Americas and the Caribbean. The trans-Atlantic slavetrade had a global impact, which is still being felt today by blacks throughoutthe world. We as Caribbean people must remember the suffering of our fore parents during this horrific period in time. In remembering we pay tribute to their lives and their courage. The attached auction notice serves as a poignant reminder.

Your participation in the Nineteenth Annual SUNSHINE Awards program will be a strong statement of commitment to the arts and cultural heritage of people of the Caribbean and Caribbean-American communities.?
